The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) was established in the year 2011 with the sanctioned intake of 30 students and increase in intake of 120 during 2012 to facilitate the evolution of problem-solving skills along with the knowledge application in the field of Mechanical Engineering. This is one of the ideal undergraduate program by the student community with a right intermingling theory and practical exposure in basics of mechanics, manufacturing, industrial, automation, energy, CAD/CAM/CAE and thermal spheres.
The department was certified with ISO 9001:2015. The Department has the state-of-the-art facilities for various laboratories, a well-equipped seminar hall, wi-fi enabled classrooms to support e-learning with Projectors and a department Library. The Department is currently in the process of NBA and NAAC.
Holistic education with values and ethics are imparted to students allowing them to pursue successful careers in design, materials, automation and entrepreneurship. We endeavor for all round excellence in students, encouraging them in all cocurricular and extracurricular activities.
The students are motivated to organizedepartment symposium (AGRONA) and seminars to hone their organizing and leadership skills.Though the focus is on academic excellence of students, faculty members motivate the students to participate in technical activities for enhancing their fundamental technical knowledge. Students are also encouraged to participate in various inter-disciplinary and industry sponsored contests as well as cultural events in and outside the college.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is associated with American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).Students enjoy freedom to express their ideas through interaction with faculty and peers by participating in department technical clubs.
B.E (Mechanical) – Intake of 30 Students.
As a part of our regular e-Learning Initiative that aims at effective use of current technology to enhance the teaching-learning process and to make it learner driven the department maintains individual course pages which hosts the Syllabus, Lesson Plan, Lecture Notes and other reading materials to conduct Value added courses like Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), Non Destructive Testing (NDT), CIPET training courses organized in our campus, 3D printing and DRONE (Approved by Anna University).Periodic guest lectures, workshops are organized for the benefit of students to supplement their curriculum. Industrial visits are arranged for students in each semester to gain knowledge of current trends and industrial scenarios which benefits them to fit for industrial needs.
Currently three faculties holds their Doctoral Degree and sevenfaculties are pursuing their Ph.D in Anna University and one faculty at Annamalai University. The major research areas include green energy, biodiesel, additive manufacturing, composites, advanced technologies in manufacturing etc.Focusing on Research, Faculties are doing research work to publish papers in Web of science and Scopus.
The department has signed MOU’s with various organizations for research and skill developments

Engineering Graduates will be able to:
1. Engineering knowledge:(K3) Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
2. Problem analysis: (K4) Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
3. Design/development of solutions: (K4) Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: (K5) Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
5. Modern tool usage: (K3, K5, K6) Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
6. The engineer and society: (A3) Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
7. Environment and sustainability: (A2) Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
8. Ethics: (A3) Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
9. Individual and teamwork: (A3) Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
